Introduction

Lifesaving in its broadest context implies the saving of life through

  1. Prevention of Accident
  2. Personal Survival ( self rescue )
  3. Rescue of others

Drowning accidents can occur anytime in places such as swimming pool, beaches, canals, river and reservoirs which may not be patrolled by qualified lifeguards. It is therefore to learn some rescue techniques not only to save lives of other people but also your.

People Learning these lifesaving skills should be adequate swimmers and it is desirable that they are competent in the swimming skills technique.

Lifesaving

  1. lifesaving 1      - to provide preliminary skills and knowledge of water safety and land-based non-contact rescues
  2. lifesaving 2      - to develop further preliminary skills and knowledge of water safety, resuscitation, land-based and non-contact rescues
  3. lifesaving 3      - to develop skill and knowledge of water safety, resuscitation and water rescue preparatory to the Bronze Medallion
  4. Bronze Medallion - to establish a basic level of proficiency in knowledge understanding and practical ability for aquatic rescue situations
  5. Pool Lifeguard - To develop acceptable standards of knowledge, judgment, skills and physical abilities for the supervision of people in swimming pools

Requirements

  1. 15 years or above.
  2. Able to swim 100 meters with any swimming strokes in 2.5 minutes

will be issued to students upon passing their lifesaving award tests conducted by the Singapore Life Saving Society examiners.
